We have a fantastic exhibition of over 60 pieces of automata, many original works and some new pieces from Paul Spooner, Keith Newstead, Peter Markey, Ron Fuller, Carlos Zapata, Martin Smith, Matt Smith and Tim Hunkin. Come and press the buttons and turn the handles to bring the pieces to life, start to understand the ingenious mechanisms that make them work, and then have a go at making your own. |

| Designing Automata Playshop · Sat 10th December 11.30a.m. · Friday 23rd December 11.30a.m. Fully booked Come and have fun and learn about designing automata with CMT’s Automata Kit. You will get a chance to try out the kit and learn how to design your own automata, using cams and a crankshaft mechanism. No tools or glue are required and endless designs can be made with the kit. No previous knowledge required. Note: Although you can’t take the kit away with you, if you leave us your e-mail address we will let you know when your design can be seen on-line. Ages 8 and up. Suitable for adults and children. Playshop activities are free but must be booked in advance. Failure to arrive at the start time will result in your place being given to stand-by participants. |

Learn how to make wildly moving crankshaft machines and linkages, then develop them into your very own projects to take away. Linkages make great shadow puppets for seasonal play performances. Make more at home and tailor make them into unusual, personalised gifts. Learn about technology and developing creativity in a fun way. Experience new, easier ways to make cams, friction drives, wildly moving crankshaft machines and much more. No experience necessary! Methods are most suitable for older KS1, KS2 and KS3 and can also be used by older students for prototyping machines in resistant materials.
