Night 7 – The Diamonds are Forever by Carlos Zapata

A new piece from Carlos for 2010, a striking design with the mechanisms contained within a figure. Jealously, intrigue and lust for money are all here.

A couple are in the lower part of the torso. He is holding a jewellery box and she is holding an umbrella looking at him waiting for him to open it. Unexpectedly he opens it, inside there is a beautiful ring with a diamond. Then the lid closes very fast, she is very excited and begins to move her arm as she wants to have it on her finger. she’s now in love….

Within the mechanism there is a hand with a Diamond ring that turns over to show a map of the world on his palm. The window in the middle part of the torso opens and the Queen of Diamonds pops out and extends her hand, she also wants the Diamond Ring. Inside her room there is a heart moving which you can hear ringing.

At the very top the torso’s head make a gesture in amusement when his eyes see whats going on.
For the curious eye, one may notice later on… at the back of the mechanism there is a boy hiding, sitting on a stool next to his pick. He’s contemplating a crude diamond stone that he’s just found and he dreams about all the things he can buy with it.
