Automata Workshops 3rd to 7th May 2005

At the American Visionary Arts Museum
Come and take part in our workshop programme this Spring.

Designing your own Automata

Try your hand at making a piece of automata, using simple cams and crank-slider mechanisms. Sue Jackson, founder of CMT and designer of the highly acclaimed Automata Kit, will show you how to make your own automata with this versatile wooden kit. You will be able to take the kit home afterwards, and work on your own designs.

Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult

Making Automata Out of... Food!

An inspiring and unusual way of making mechanical toys, using everyday ingredients from the kitchen with Sarah Alexander. Learn how to make cookies into cams, candy into pinwheels and pasta into ratchets! Great fun.

Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult.

Carlos Zapata Workshops

Carlos Zapata will be working on a new piece of automata at the AVAM during the week, so come and join him during the programme. Carlos's work is very vibrant and sculptural, full of hidden meaning and quirky mechanical details. You will get a chance to work with him on the piece, and also try making your own work.

Over 16 year olds only.
