Cabaret Mechanical Theatre
CMT News - APRIL 2010
Welcome to this month's news from CMT.
Carlos Zapata has just finished the ultimate piece of automata, a cycling 'automata repairman'. We have recently launched a new online store on the Cabaret website, which has our full range of exciting products, including the first edition of automata from new artist Pascale Michalski. If you are in London, make sure to visit Tim Lewis' delightful retrospective exhibition, and further afield, catch up with Tim Hunkin.

'The Automata Repairman 2010' by Carlos Zapata Automata Repair Man 2010 Take a look at this fantastic new one-off piece from Carlos Zapata. The cyclist is the much appreciated 'Automata Repairman'. He is on his way to restore and repair all things mechanical, the tools of his trade on the back of his bike, (the toolbox opening and shutting along the way in excited anticipation). The repairman's thoughts and dreams are played out in the mechanism below, very much in Carlos' unique style.

Fort Libellula is currently being prepared for exhibition, and will be featured in one of our upcoming shows.
'SpooMonkey' by Pascale Michalski
The first edition of automata from Pascale Michalski. SpooMonkey , which is short for Spooky Monkey, has been trapped in his cage for an eternity. His only amusement is making his bells tintinnabulate repeatedly. His haggard body tries to break out, but fails at it miserably again and again...

Tim Lewis Retrospective
If you are in London soon make sure to pop into the Flowers Gallery in Cork Street W1 (ends 8th May), to admire this retrospective of Tim Lewis' uncanny machines. Tim has been exhibiting his sculpture since the 1980's and has always had a preoccupation with endowing objects with properties they don't naturally possess. A gently trilling robotic bird, left, is housed in a Jimmy Choo shoe.

Tim Hunkin at PINC
If you are in the UK this summer try and visit Tim Hunkins wonderful Under the Pier Show in Southwold. It is full of incredible coin-operated machines. One of our favourite new ones is Art Apocalypse . If you can't make a visit, check out Tim's website where you can learn more about this piece, and also how to make your own coin-operated machines (you can also show Tim your own machine ideas). Tim will also be speaking at the PINC conference (11th to 18th May) in the Netherlands. This quirky annual event is full of fascinating speakers.
